Emailing Form Content is Easy at DaySite

Perhaps the most common CGI program used today is one that emails the content of a form to a specified address. The content can be emailed to any email address you want. Order Forms, Contact Forms, Customer Service Forms and the content of any form can be sent to any email address.

DaySite Webservers have been configured to do this without having to install any scripts or learn any programming. All you have to do is: 1- Edit the "value" fields as instructed below, 2- copy and paste all 4 lines into your form, and 3- upload your form to the server and that is it.

<form method='POST' action='/cgi-bin/fmail.pl'>
<input type='hidden' name='recipient' value='email@domain.com'>
<input type='hidden' name='subject'   value='My First Form'>
<input type='hidden' name='thankurl'  value='http://YourDomain.Com/thank.htm'>

Email Forms Important Notice

DaySite cannot guarantee that the content of your forms will arrive if you are having your form email sent to a POP email address that is not located on the DaySite servers. To be sure that your email arrives, just have your form mail sent to an email address that DaySite has set up for you.

Form Instructions

There are just four things you have to do to get your form working. But before we start, stop rolling your eyes! :) This is really easy stuff.

  • On the second line, change the email@mydomain.com to the email address that you want this form sent to.
  • On the third line, change My First Form to whatever you want to name your form. This will show on the Subject line of your email, and is usually the name you want associated with the form. If it is an order form, then "Order From" would work nicely
  • On the 4th line, change the URL to the address to a thank you page. When your viewer clicks the Submit button they will be redirected to this page. This page is usually a thank you page, but could be any page you like. If you don't have a 'thankyou' page made up just yet, make this your home page.
  • Now copy all 4 lines to your form. Make sure that you replace the ‘<form>’ tag with the first line of the code you just edited. Your existing '<form>' tag will likely contain a bunch of other code, and may look something like this: "<form method='post' action='somescript.pl'>". Just make sure you get rid of all of the code, starting with "<form", and ending with ">’ Also make sure that the other 3 lines get inserted in your form.

One last detail: If one of the fields in your form is used for collecting email, name it 'username', not 'email' or anything else. Your form input tag for collecting email addresses should include these attributes:

<input type='text' name='username'>

If you are using FrontPage: Right Click on the field that you want to use for collecting email, Select 'Form Field Properties', and name the field 'username'

Upload your form to the server and try it.
