Web Host Ratings

For years I have worked on understanding search engine placement for my Website. Guiding clients through this confusing subject has had is ups and downs, the ups have been rewarding. This article is intended to give you an overview of page design for search engine positioning. The goal is to get your pages higher placement on the search engines to attract more traffic to your site. There is of course no guarantee, but if you follow the basic principles outlined here, you will improve your web site search engine rankings.

The one word that will best help you is FOCUS. When a search engine sends its spider to crawl your site and pages, it attempts to gain an understanding about just what your site and pages are about. The overall focus of your site must be clear, and your pages must expand on that subject.

Any deviation from this only confuses the search engine. Say you lay out a great page highly focused on a certain subject. Keywords and key phrases are well positioned and used throughout the page. Then you screw it up by adding a link to a site about an unrelated subject. Then ego takes over, and you further screw up your masterpiece by putting your name in big bold letters right up top. Now the search engine spider just knows that your site is about three things; your subject, whatever is at the end of that link, and your name. Your page has lost focus.

Now if your eyes are rolling all the way back into the upper part of their sockets at this point, and you have no hope of reading beyond this page, just do the best you can to focus your pages as best you can. Otherwise read on.
