Web Page Links Labels

Links are another of prominent place to highlight your Keywords. For promotion purposes there are two basic kinds of links. Some are images and some are text based. For maximum impact, USE TEXT LINKS! For those of you whom already have a great looking site with image based links, don't despair. You can highlight your image-based links by adding the [alt] tag. See Using Alt Tags.

Text links look like this:

[a href='/page.htm']Keyword Here[/a]
And looks like this on the page: Keyword Here

In this case the url to the page that you are linking to is 'page.htm'. The lable is what we are interested in. Here it is 'Keyword Here'. The lable can say anything, so why not include the Keywords to the page you are linking to.

The important thing here is that the label is treated as a separate item. It is interpreted by the search engines all by it self. Some search engines place a great deal of importance to these labels. So it is imperative that links include your Keywords. And it is just as important to avoid using text that is unrelated to your Website.

Link Quality

Search engines have been placing more and more importance on the quality of links. You see when a search engine comes to your page, it follows each and every link to its source, on or off your site, and evaluates that page as well. If the link leads to a page that is related to your site, and has similar keywords, your page gets a relevancy boost. That is good. However, if your links go to pages of unrelated subjects, your loose relevancy points. That is bad. So it is important that links on your page go to related or relevant pages. And yes that means that all those cool links must go.

Link Popularity

The best links are the ones that other sites place on their pages that point to your site. The more the better. Search engines have always placed great importance on this. Lately however, the quality of those links are also being evaluated. You see there are lots of automated ways of getting links to point to your site, and the search engines are well aware of these methods. So now they also evaluate the site that is pointing to yours, and if that Website has a similar or related subject, then your page gets another relevancy boost. That is good.
